A COMPANY WITH TRADITION

Foundation

In 1958 in the course of the booming German economy, Wicander & Co lay the foundation of today's business. The production of aluminium tear-off closures for the drinks- and pharmaceutical industry starts in Worms am Rhein. The company grows and prospers.

The new era

In 1969 the production of the first aluminium roll-on closures (ROPP) begins under new management: ALCOA, Aluminum Company of America, is now the proprietor.

A brilliant idea

The search for ever new and better solutions for the drinks industry is enormously spurred on in the 1980s. The idea occurs of fusing proven materials such as aluminium and plastic into a closure. The big breakthrough succeeds in 1983: the new TALOG high-quality closure is released for production and placed on the market.

Continued success

The extremely successful TALOG, the aluminium roll-on closure with plastic tamper band, gets a new addition. In 1989 ALCOA Deutschland GmbH in Worms places Alu-Star, a quality closure with improved consumer-friendliness, on the market. The German plant distinguishes itself by reliable quality and extensive expertise.

A trendsetter

At the start of the 1990s ALCOA reacts to current and pioneering market changes and trends. The result is the RONDO aluminium closure for paper strip quality assurance.

New markets

In the new millennium new markets also begin to dawn for the Worms company. Worms, situated in the middle of the German wine-growing region, exerts itself in looking for alternative solutions for the closure of wines. ALCOA picks up the trend and takes the first steps in a new direction: Alternative wine closures - e.g. Vino-Lok glass closure. In 2006 the strategic reorientation succeeds: double-digit growth figures are secured with the 30x60mm BVS LONG-CAP closure.

PVC-free – a new generation of materials

In 2008, in the course of the worldwide recession and property crisis in the USA, ALCOA, Aluminum Company of America, sells all 32 ALCOA packaging works to Rank Group Ltd., New Zealand. From now on the Worms company is called Closure Systems International Deutschland. Moreover the company leads the way in the industry in the exclusive use of PVC-free sealing materials.

Upturn and internationalisation

Closure Systems International Worms succeeds in 2010 in a breakthrough with HI-LOK, the first closure for aluminium bottles. The company grows and prides itself on a production of 3.4 billion aluminium caps per year which are supplied to 46 countries. As the first aluminium cap manufacturer in the world, the Worms company receives the FSSC 22000 certificate (Food Safety System Certification) in 2013.

After some years (2014 – Januar 2020) in private ownership (closurelogic GmbH) Guala Closures Group took over the assets of the closures plant in Worms/Rhein, Germany in February 2020.
